Crosser FC Clinches Unity Cup in 7-Aside Artisan Football Competition

In a thrilling finale to the 7-Aside Artisan Football competition, Crosser FC, representing Idere, emerged victorious over Salon FC from Igboora, securing the coveted Unity Cup by a narrow margin of 1-0.

The highly anticipated match, held at the playing field of Oyo State School of Science, Idere, saw fervent support from the local community as traders and artisans from Ibarapa Central Local Government Area of Oyo State gathered to witness the showdown between the two formidable teams.

Despite the scorching midday sun, both teams displayed great skill and determination throughout the match. However, it was Crosser FC who seized the opportunity to clinch victory with a decisive goal, sending their fans into jubilation.

Honourable Tokunbo Toriola, the convener of the competition, expressed his delight at the success of the tournament, highlighting the importance of fostering unity and camaraderie among the local communities through sports.

The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries including Hon. Anthony Adebayo Adepoju, Member House of Representatives for Ibarapa Central/North Federal Constituency, Hon. Ademola Ojo, Oyo State Commissioner for Trades and Commerce, and Hon. Monsuru Oduola, Special Adviser to the Governor, among others. Also present were HRH Oba Kingsley Onikola, The Onidere of Idere land, and the Asingangan of Igangan land, underscoring the significance of sports in promoting community engagement and development.

The match, which kicked off at 12 PM, concluded by 1 PM, leaving a lasting impression on all attendees and showcasing the talent and passion for football within the local artisan and trader communities of Ibarapa Central.

Encomium As Ibarapa FA, Others Bid Wahab Farewell

The Football Association, Coaches and Football Stakeholders in Ibarapa Central Local Government of Oyo State stood still on Sunday in honour of a professional referee, Wahab Saheed Olanrewaju as a sentforth programme held in recognition of his significant contribution to the development of sporting activities in the axis.

Wahab Saheed, a civil servant at the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) was transferred from Idere in Ibarapa Central after 16 years of his teaching profession in the community to his home city, Ibadan.

The sentforth programme which was monitored by Idere Update took place at Ayelogun Grammar School playing ground on Sunday saw football association members, coaches, players and stakeholders in the seven communities that make up the Ibarapa zone gather in “Thank you Mr. Saheed” customized white t-shirt to bid an icon a farewell.

Dignitaries at the programme were the FA Chairman in Ibarapa Central, Alhaji Kareem, the Zonal Inspector of Education in Ibarapa, Prince Ramoni Lawal O., erstwhile Caretaker Chairman of Ibarapa Central Local Government, Hon. Bola Olawoore.

Other personalities include The principal of Ayelogun Grammar School, Mr. Ajayi O., the Chairman Ibadan Football Referee Society, Dr. Sesan Odukoya, Chairman Eruwa Referee Society, Mr. Adebisi Adeyemi, Staff of Ayelogun Grammar School and colleagues of the celebrant.

According to our correspondent, two matches were played during the sentforth programme. The first match had a team of football stakeholders in Ibarapa Central playing against a team of Ibarapa North stakeholders.

A winning goal of the match was scored by the Celebrant, Wahab to give Ibarapa Central stakeholders a victory against their counterparts from Ibarapa North.

The second match of the programme featured Emirate FC of Idere playing host to the Super Babes of Igboora. The latter had a comfortable 4-1 win over the former.

Ibarapa FA Chairman, Alhaji Kareem in his remarks described Wahab Saheed as a legend whose contribution to the progress of football activities in Ibarapa Central will always be remarkable.

Wahab, according to the FA Chairman, had not only made impact to officiate matches in notable football competitions, but had also sacrificed his time and resources to groom individuals with a desire to become football referees.

“He has done really well for Ibarapa Central in terms of bringing civility to how football matches are played and directed. Impact that he will also be remembered for is a training he had made available for our young brothers nurturing ambition to become professional referees” FA Chairman concluded.

The Ibarapa Zonal Inspector of Education (ZIE), Prince Ramoni Lawal said Wahab was a cheerful and dedicated civil servant with a great strides in his teaching career.

“We are proud of our 16-year relationship with him in Idere community. There are so many things he has done remarkably, most important for his knowledge that had modernized sport activities in our locality.

“He has taught our children how to be responsible in the classroom as a teacher. Also as a football lover, he has done wonderfully well to build visionary football referees.

“It is our wish that he continues to do well in his new environment and we pray God help him” Prince Lawal said.

Award of excellence was also presented to Mr. Wahab Saheed by the Association of Referee in Ibarapa Central in acknowledgement of vital roles he had played during his stint in Ibarapa as a high-ranking football official.

Ibarapa Central FA, coaches and stakeholder jointly presented a gift to appreciate the celebrant of his effort.

In his response, said he felt impressed with the honour accorded to him by everyone, including the Zonal Inspector of Education, Prince Lawal.

“I have been here since 2005. I am proud to say it today that there is nowhere I go in this community that I am not welcomed.

“Thanks to Almighty God that our relationship today is on a good note. We shared wonderful memories that leave many of us at advantage.

“I’m highly honoured with praises and wishes from my fathers, brothers, friends and colleagues in coaching profession. I pray that everyone of us and children never lack favour wherever we go.

“I am happy Ibarapa now has certified football referees who have gone through training and fit to officiate football matches. It is my advice that they all build on the laid down principles and motto of the profession, “fair play” he said.

The 2019/20 English Premier League Champions, Liverpool on her visit to Etihad Stadium on Thursday evening suffered a woeful defeat to Manchester City. The game ended four goals to nill.

Liverpool, who was lately declared champions of English Premier League, upon his heaviest defeat, remains Epl Champions with a distinct 20points over Manchester City who is 11 points ahead of third-place Leicester City.
